Quince BA29

The most commonly-used dwarf rootstock used for dwarf pear cultivation is BA29 rootstock. Dwarf rootstocks require support systems such as wire-stake training system. Planting method of pear seedlings derived with BA29 dwarf rootstock is 3.5x2m for spur varieties and 4x2m and 4.x1.5m for standard varieties. BA29 dwarf pear rootstock is adaptable to majority of pear varieties. It is vulnerable to fire blight disease.
High density plantation may be applied for this rootstock in gardens like the M9 rootstock for which high density plantation is applied for apples.
